Who? What? Where? When? Why?

My latest gripe has been with newspaper writers. I had always thought that a "story" had to have the 5 important elements. A lot of the time, one or more elements are missing. Some sports stories, on the local level, never mention the School and refer to the teams by their "mascot names". Like "Tigers", "Wildcats", "Bears" etc. However, to go along with this lack of information, according to "Title 9", where every one is equal, they don't designate gender and refer to players by their last name. That doesn't help matters either. How do you sort these things out?
Another item is, when did this "thing" take place? With Blogs, newsletters and other source, dates are left out. They use "Today", "Yesterday", "Tomorrow" and other vague references to time. Which, if you don't have a starting point, you are still lost.
Now , that brings us to the real problem of integrity of the "news". With "Bloggers" that abound the "net" truth in story telling is very much in question. Although, some bloggers, "video tapers" have "caught" lies, embarrassments and ridiculous events, is this news or even make these people "News persons"?
I am having serious doubts about the future of "reporting". Not everyone or anyone can or should be allowed to just spew garbage. That's why I even question "this" writing. Thank GOD there's no followers to worry about! I am concerned about the future of Newspapers and Magazines. It costs, but who is going to pay? Free internet? Somebody has to pay! And, what is the price going to be? Always, more questions that answers.

Change in strategy ?

I have been spending too much time trying to influence people at Facebook on my feelings on Business. I have decided to leave my comic relief at that place and put my opinions only on the blog. (If I can remember.) I shouldn't try to force the issue on a "social network". That should only be for "socializing" not lecturing.

With my lack of ability and with the computer restrictions I have to deal with, I am still going to try to place "news" articles or "links" into the blog posts. This may be a problem on a number of counts. I wish myself "good luck".

The "Blog" name should not go unnoticed.

I have found a number of news articles this past week that have not been flattering to the "Business World". Coal mine disasters; Toyota recalls that were ignored; enormous pay increases for executives that don't deserve it and the list goes on.

"March Madness"

The crazy season has begun. Last weekend I watched some Illinois "Girls" Basketball tournies class 3A and 4A. Tonight starts Illinois "Boys" Tournaments. Some College Confrence Playoffs began today. By the weekend they all should be over and the 65 teams and brackets of the Colleges will be posted Sunday night/late afternoon. I tried to start a NCAA "Playoff Pool". I invited people to join and will have to wait and see as to what will happen.

"Business Ethics" gone again.

Now it's Apple who is trying to increase profits by not monitoring its foreign production sites. There are responsibilities for doing business. Safe products. Social responsibilities of decent wages and worker safety and not exploiting children. Realizing there are costs to manufacturing, I feel that that the big business interests must be watched and held responsible. Cheap products are one thing. How you arrive at that position is another. That's were responsible "journalism" comes into play, but that's a story for another time, if responsible journalism is still around to comment on.

"Big Business" no ethics !

The big gorillas, Microsoft, Cisco, Yahoo, Goggle et al are run by "young turks" who have no business ethics. These companies were re-dressed by Congress in hearings this past summer. The Congressional hearing addressed the issue of Chinese disadents being tracked down by their government through the help of these companies. These American companies used the excuse "If we don't our competition will". Which means the almighty Dollar is more important than "human rights". This can also be translated to being inexperienced in business. When starting these companies there was no need for a formal education to get into this type of business. But, as they grew faster than they could handle they promoted from within, leaving computer "geeks" to run the business in a "global" system in which they thought fast money was the answer. Retiring at the age of 30 or less.
The leaders of these companies embarass themselves with their foolish answers.
But, this doesn't end here. They are now enticing law enforcement to use their systems to track everyone and anyone at will. It's going to be a fine line between National Security and "Big Brother" caused by "Big Business".
What's the answer ???

Women's downhill

The pictures remind me of my own experience of learning how to ski in the German Alps. The real scary things about this Olympic course are that the distance from start to finish is 1.8 miles in less than a minute and dropping in height the length of two Empire State Buildings.

1st day of Olympic competition-Apollo Ohno

Apollo Ohno was "lucky" at the end of the 500. Not that he isn't good but, if the two Koreans hadn't knocked each other out it would have been a Korean sweep, 1, 2, 3.
Women's Moogles was great. Even my "couch potato" wife liked it.
